Net Zero Retrofit

Ventilation

The main aim of retrofit work to your home is to make it more energy efficient by insulating it in the most effective way – think of it as wrapping your home in a duvet. It will make it warmer and easier to heat, meaning that less heated air escapes from your home.

Most homes lose heated air naturally though drafty windows, walls, and roofs. This natural ventilation also takes with it polluted, stagnant and moisture laden air (think of steam from your bathrooms or kitchens when cooking).

By wrapping your home in insulation, cold air from outside is less likely to get in, but the unwelcome air inside has less opportunity to get out. This is where controlled ventilation helps.

Ventilation measures have minimal running costs and will ensure air is able to circulate around your home. Polluted air is removed, preventing damp and condensation issues, giving you a healthier, warmer home.

Benefits of ventilation

Improved airflow – Cross flow ventilation for your property is crucial to reduce moisture within your property.

Reduced risk of mould – Mould growth is common within many properties and having good ventilation will reduce this risk.

Energy efficient – Insulates your home in the most effective way, making it warmer and easier to heat.

Ventilation measures

dMEV+ – This is a decentralised mechanical extract ventilation. It incorporates adjustable trickle settings and constant volume technology. The fan will be set at its ideal speed as required, and will ensure that your home is filled with healthy and moisture free air.

Door Undercuts – If your doors sit flush with the floor, air cannot circulate between rooms. This means some spaces can suffer the effects of damp and mould. Door undercuts allow free air movement and healthy air flow.

Window trickle vents – Trickle vents allow stagnant air to move from inside your home to the colder air outside. They are key in reducing damp and mould in areas most likely to be affected.

Installation Information

Please ensure that our installers are able to access the areas where your ventilation measures are being installed by removing large items or personal possessions in the immediate area.

The ECO dMEV+ is a centralised mechanical extract ventilation fan unit, incorporating adjustable trickle settings and constant volume technology. The fan has a maximum speed of 18 l/s. The fan will be set at its ideal speed as required.

Inspect the fan regularly – If the fan is not working, please report this to your landlord.

Keep clean – Ensure the fans are kept clear of debris and dirt.

Repair promptly – Report any damages immediately to prevent loss of extraction and further deterioration. The unit incorporates a filter gauze for ease of maintenance. Your landlord should regularly maintain this going forward.

Avoid storage – Do not store items directly in front of the ventilation fans, as this reduces its efficiency.

Window trickle vents – Keep trickle vents open in rooms where there is no mechanical ventilation in place.
